Mokon Announces Refrigerant Changeover to Green-Friendly R-407C

BUFFALO, N.Y., April 6, 2009 - As a global provider and part of Mokon's green-friendly initiative, we are now offering R-407C refrigerant in our line of Iceman portable and central chiller systems for North America and global business opportunities. R-407C is an environmentally-friendly refrigerant that contains no ozone-depleting properties.

Mokon's selection of R-407C is based on a refrigerant that has similar properties, characteristics and pressure ratings to that of R-22 and also has one of the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) values, which may be governed by the Environmental Protection Agency in the near future. R-407C has been the accepted refrigerant in Europe for many years, due to its reliable performance, compatibility and non-chlorine containing properties.

With the mandated phase-out of R-22 by the United States government in January 2010, the operation of existing chillers with R-22 will become more costly due to limited production supplies after 2010 and will only be available for use in servicing pre-existing systems. The use of R-407C will not require major component changes or system overhauls when retrofitting our existing line of Iceman portable and central chillers. A change of compressor oil, evacuation and a re-charge with R-407C will be all that's necessary for start up, making R-407C the accepted R-22 replacement refrigerant.

Mokon offers a complete line of Iceman portable chiller systems for process cooling requirements down to 5°F (-15°C). Mokon's line of portable chillers is available from ¼-ton to 35-ton cooling capacities in air-cooled or water-cooled condensing. In addition, combination heating and cooling systems, dual circuit capacity control systems from 10 tons to 40 tons, and outdoor air-cooled scroll systems are also available. Mokon's Iceman central chillers supply process fluid control down to 20°F (-6°C) in 30 to 120-ton cooling capacities. The central chillers are available in single or dual circuit configurations, air-cooled or water-cooled condensing, and scroll or semi-hermetic discus compressors.

For over 50 years, Mokon has set the standard for high quality circulating liquid temperature control systems. Through the development of new products, refinement of existing designs, and our ability to create custom engineered solutions, Mokon has consistently demonstrated its ability to foresee the evolving needs of customers in plastics processing, packaging, converting, composites, medical/pharmaceutical processing, chemical processing, rubber, printing, general processing, and many more industries. The company's product line has grown significantly since it first introduced a water temperature control system in 1955 to include heat transfer oil systems, portable and central chillers, pump tanks, cooling towers, blown film coolers, cold climate coolers, engineered and pre-engineered control panels, maintenance products, and custom designed/engineered systems.

Mokon Introduces New Line of Power and Process Control Panels

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Mokon announces the availability of power and process control panels and systems for commercial and industrial applications. Standard, custom, and pre-engineered panels are available from Mokon for any industry including plastics, food processing, pharmaceutical, packaging, and many others.

Typical features available on Mokon control panels include: UL and cUL listed sub-panel; ESA electrical approval and CSA compatibility; NFPA 79 electrical standards; UL 508, NEC, and CEC standards; CE Mark and directives compliant; NEMA rated enclosures for hazardous and non-hazardous locations; and local or remote panels. A variety of capabilities including Z purge designs; stainless steel cabinetry; and NEMA 1, 3, 4, 4x and 12 rated enclosures are available. Some typical components include: fused and unfused disconnects, circuit breakers, power distribution blocks, terminal blocks for customer interfacing, starters, electronic controls, high limits, and panel heaters and coolers. A variety of custom components and communication capabilities are also offered.

Mokon's application engineers will work directly with clients' technicians and engineers to design and build a system specific to their process. The traditional Mokon value customers have come to know and trust will be evident from the receipt of a comprehensive and detailed proposal, along with assembly and panel layout drawings for approval, and the delivery of a well laid-out and logical control system that meets customers' specifications.

Mokon Introduces New Line of Blown Film Coolers

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Mokon announces the availability of their BFC Series - Blown Film Air Coolers, which offer an increase in blown film productivity, especially in warmer climates or other environments where ambient air temperatures rise during the summer. Mokon's BFC Series boosts productivity by eliminating production variables in air ring supply, including air temperature, pressure and volume and, are available in sizes from 600 CFM to 7500 CFM.

The BFC Series uses a modulated chilled water supply to provide a constant leaving air temperature to the process. The air inlet diffuser assures that the air stream covers the full face of the cooling coil to provide optimum cooling efficiency. The leaving air chamber is insulated to reduce condensation while providing the coldest air possible to the air ring.

The overall design provides for long life, durability and accurate air ring process control. Other features of the Blown Film Air Coolers include:

  • Powder-coated, heavy-gauge steel cabinet designed for 35-inch static pressure
  • Non-corrosive wetted surfaces
  • 16-inchor 35-inch static pressure blower packages
  • Permanent cleanable filter
  • Condensate trap
  • Drip condensate pan
  • Bolt-on adjustable legs
  • Stackable design available
  • Dial thermometers for chilled water inlet, chilled water outlet and leaving air
  • Pre-piped with optional two- or three-way chilled water control
